Trézor.io/Start® — Quick Start Guide

Fast, secure steps to get your Trézor® hardware wallet up and running.

Intro

This short guide walks you through the essential steps to start your Trézor® device safely. Follow these practical tips for unboxing, initialization, recovery seed handling, PIN setup, firmware updates, and your first verified transaction. The goal: secure setup in minutes without skipping key protections.

Unbox & Inspect

Inspect packaging for tamper evidence and confirm accessories (device, cable, seed backup cards). If anything looks altered, stop and verify before continuing. Keep the box and documentation until setup completes.

Initialize Device

Seed safety: Write the recovery words on paper or metal backup provided. Never store the seed in a photo, cloud, or plain text file. Treat it as the ultimate key to your funds.

PIN & Optional Passphrase

Set a PIN to protect the device from physical access. Choose a PIN you can remember but that is not trivially guessable. Advanced users may enable a passphrase (acts like an extra seed word); only enable this if you understand its implications—losing it means losing access to those funds.

Firmware & Software

Update device firmware using the official, verified setup flow. Use only the official management software or verified web start flow. Verifying firmware authenticity and installer integrity reduces the risk of tampered packages.

First Transaction — Verify On-Device

When sending or receiving, always confirm addresses and amounts on the device screen. The device screen is the single trusted source of truth; malware on your computer can alter displayed addresses—never rely solely on the computer display.

Quick Security Checklist

With these straightforward steps you’ll have a secure Trézor® setup that protects your private keys while giving you control and confidence to manage crypto. Take your time during setup—security is worth a few extra minutes.
